About us

SHARE is a KwaNobuhle based Not-For-Profit Social Developmental Welfare organization, established in 1988 by the community of Uitenhage townships of Langa and KwaNobuhle at the height of the struggle for freedom in South Africa.

SHARE was registered in 1990 as a fundraising organization and was reregistered as a Not-For-Profit Organization (NPO) in 2000.

In 1996, SHARE got official recognition from the Provincial government when the premier of the province, Mr. Oom Ray Mhlaba, Mec for Social Development Dr. Trudy Thomas, Mec for Public Works Mr. Thobile Mhlahlo, Mec for Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. Smuts Ngonyama and other high profile and senior government officials attended the launch of SHARE projects.

During the same year, SHARE was formally recognized by the department of Social Development by granting SHARE five social work posts.

In 1990, the then KwaNobuhle Town Council donated an old single menís hostel to SHARE.

Through initial funding from the British Council, SHARE was able to renovate the old dilapidated hostel and convert it into a Community Development Complex.

In 2003, VW Global Works Council donated funds for renovations and expansion of Lukhanyiso home to accommodate an increased number of children, both boys and girls.

Today, SHARE is involved in a number of networks at a local, provincial, national and regional level. Locally, SHARE serves and is represented at a Save the Children Forum, Welfare Forum, and Eastern Cape NGO Coalition.

Regionally SHARE is one of the founding members of SANTAC - Southern African network Against Trafficking and Abuse of Children. Nationally, SHARE is represented on an advisory panel of SAWID.

Through network contacts, SHARE was exposed to potential funding partners, new concepts, and information that would not be known to then if we were not participating in these networks.
